The San Francisco Bay Area Curling Club (SFBACC) was founded March 13, 1958 in Mountain View. In the club's early years, it had a dedicated curling facility. For the past 20+ years, the club has curled on arena ice.
The San Francisco Bay Area Curling Club is a registered non-profit corporation in the state of California. The SFBACC is a member of the Mountain Pacific Curling Association and also of the US Curling Association (USCA)
The Bay Area Curling Club has been curling in San Jose since 1994. Until the 2006 Torino Olympics, the club rented ice for short seasons - sometimes only 6 times per year. After the 2006 Olympics, the club grew rapidly, and partnered with Sharks Ice to provide classes and leagues.
The club currently plays at three Sharks Ice arena facilities. These are the Sharks Ice at San Jose, Sharks Ice at Fremont, and Sharks Ice at Oakland, skating arenas owned by the respective cities and operated by Silicon Valley Sports and Entertainment.
Ice is rented by the hour and ice time is relatively limited. Markings for curling are permanently installed in the ice, using rings painted under the surface. New rocks, brooms, and other equipment have recently been added to each facility.
The club offers multiple sessions of instructional leagues, competitive leagues, practice sessions, and various lessons throughout the year at the three curling facilities it uses.
After the 2010 Winter Olympics, the San Francisco Bay Area Curling Club has hosted numerous Learn to Curl events at its three locations for hundreds of new curlers.
The SFBACC hosts an annual tournament called the Golden Gate Bonspiel during the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
